How to find vegan booze
Posted by cvc under Uncategorized Tags: Vegan Wine and Beer
Straight from Barnivore (and via JasonDoucette):
It might seem weird at first, but your favourite drink might have more than just alcohol in it.
Brewmasters, winemakers, and distillers may include animal ingredients in their products directly, or they might use them in the processing and filtration.
These ingredients don’t usually show up on the label, so the only way to find out is to ask.
More specifically, edible gelatins (made from bones), honey, isinglass (made from the swim bladders of fish), casein and potassium caseinate (milk proteins) and animal albumin (egg albumin and dried blood powder) may be used as ingredients or in processing and filtration.
Barnivore has provided the vital service of doing the legwork for us vegans! Enter the booze in question in the search field and get details on its vegan-friendly status.

Thanks for the post! We’re really excited about the new site, but I want to give credit where credit is due: we do a lot of the legwork and data entry and whatnot, but most of the entries in the list were supplied by members of the community who took the time to contact their favourite companies and share the responses with us so everyone else could benefit.
The list started with a handful of our favourite local breweries, but we’re always adding some microbrewery in Ohio etc that we’ve never heard of but someone out there is passionate about enough to contact on their own, and it’s one of our favourite parts about running the site!
I’ve updated the home page to make things a bit clearer, and we’ll work on that in the weeks to come. Thanks for pointing that out!
Cheers,
Jason
